What is Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga?
Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) is an evidence based treatment for individuals who have experienced traumatic events or suffer from Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). TCTSY is grounded in the science of the psychology and neurophysiology of trauma exposure and attachment disruption. For more information on the evidence base, theoretical foundations, and the practice of TCTSY, explore the official website: traumasensitiveyoga.com.
The main objective of TCTSY is to use yoga forms as opportunities to notice what we feel in our bodies and to practice making choices about what to do with our bodies. Through yoga, we experiment with:
Classes are designed for students to be in control of what they are doing with their body at all times. The instructor is there to provide safe, professional guidance and help students focus on particular dynamics (e.g., what muscles they are using, what it feels like to have their feet on the ground, what it feels like to breathe, etc.)
In the TCTSY classes offered at CFCE…
- No experience is necessary.
- We strive to make the classes accessible to everybody regardless of physical ability. Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga is a way for us to safely experiment with our body.
- The presentation of yoga is NOT religious.
- In group classes, participants will not have to interact with one another, making this class more comfortable for those individuals who find it difficult to be in groups.
